Caregiver¡¯s Burden and Educational Needs of According to the Stroke Patients¡¯s Level of Function

Abstract
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to identify the cognitive function and activities of daily living activities of patients who were admitted to the hospital with stroke diagnosis, and to investigate the caregiver¡¯s burden and education needs.

Methods : After receiving permission from the hospital rehabilitation department from July to August 2017, questionnaires were collected for the main caregivers of stroke patients. Patient's disease- related characteristics were based on data from medical records, and the functional level of stroke patients was directly observed and measured.

Results : According to the characteristics of stroke patients, the burden of care and education need were significantly different according to the education level of the patients. There was a significant difference in the burden of care according to the level of daily living ability of the patients (p<.05). There were significant differences in the educational needs of the caregivers according to the characteristics of the caregivers and the educational needs of the caregivers. There were significant differences in the care burdens according to the physical health status of the caregivers (p<.05). There was a significant correlation between the cognitive function of the patient and the daily life ability of the patient (p<.05).

Conclusion : The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for the development of an occupational therapy intervention program that meets the educational needs of the state carers and reduces the burden of care.
